CENTRAL VACUUM SYSTEM
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
ELECTRICAL SERVICE
Line Voltage - Three Phase
Provide separate 208, 230, 460 or 575 volt 3-phase electrical circuit for
each vacuum turbine. The voltage your turbine motor will operate on is
determined by the main line voltage installed in your building.
Line Voltage - Single Phase
Provide separate 208 or230 volt single-phase electrical circuit for each
vacuum turbine. The voltage your turbine motor will operate on is determined by
the main line voltage installed in your building. You can operate up to a 10 H.P.
motor, as long as you have enough amperage service.
TURBINE MOTOR
ELECTRICAL WIRING
Wire size necessary for vacuum turbine motor operation will be determined by
motor H.P., phase, volts, full load amps and distance from circuit breaker panel
location. Refer to power flow turbine literature for requirements based on model
selected.
TURBINE MOTOR RUNNING
PROTECTION
Provide a across the line non-reversing magnetic
starter with auxiliary contact sized for H.P., voltage, phase and full load amps
of each motor. When starter is installed indoors, use NEMA 1 enclosure, outdoors
use NEMA 3R enclosure.
TURBINE MOTOR DISCONNECT
Provide fused disconnect for each turbine motor,
sized for H.P., voltage, amps and phase. NEMA 1 enclosure indoors, NEMA 3R
enclosure outdoors. Disconnect not necessary if electrical circuit breaker panel
is accessible at vacuum turbine location.
TURBINE MOTOR ON-OFF
OPERATION
Provide weather-tight on-off push button control
switch at vacuuming location for each vacuum turbine. Run 3 #14 THHN wires from
each turbine magnetic starter to each on-off control switch location. Use
explosion proof on-off push button control in hazardous locations, such as near
gas dispensers.
VACUUM EQUIPMENT FOUNDATION
Always install vacuum turbine(s) and debris
separator on a solid foundation. Concrete is preferred, as it provides a solid
base. When equipment is installed in a wet environment, we recommend a pad
4" to 6" high be poured to elevate equipment and protect it from
standing water and/or moisture.
VACUUM TURBINE VENTILATION
Indoors
When vacuum turbine is installed indoors, provide adequate ventilation such as
outside to inside air duct, wall vents, roof turret vents, or louvered door or
doors, and exhaust fan controlled via a thermostat to turn on fan at 850F.
Fan should be sized to turn air over in every room every 15 minutes minimum.
Outdoors
When vacuum turbine is installed outdoors and enclosed for weather protection,
follow indoor requirements. Never install vacuum turbine in an enclosure
without adequate ventilation and turbine exhaust to atmosphere. When installed
outdoors in cold climates, also install one 100 watt light bulb controlled by a
thermostat set to come on at 400 F and off at 550 F.
VACUUM TURBINE EXHAUST
Always exhaust vacuum turbine with 4" IPS
pipe to atmosphere when installed indoors, or when installed outdoors in a
weatherproof enclosure. If exhaust pipe exceeds 20' total distance, run 6"
IPS pipe total distance. Always protect exhaust pipe termination from the
elements.
When exhausted through the roof, install a 900
elbow and 450 elbow on end of pipe. When exhausted through sidewall,
install 450 elbow on end of pipe pointed toward ground. When vacuum
turbine is installed outdoors with no enclosure, install 900 elbow
and 450 elbow on exhaust silencer, 4" discharge fitting.
VACUUM PIPING SYSTEM - VEHICLE
CARE, CAR WASH, DETAIL AND NEW CAR DEALER
RECOMMENDED PIPE AND FITTINGS
ABOVE GROUND
ABS, PVC, DWV or Zinc-coated steel
PIPING SYSTEM OVERHEAD
Support from under canopy type structure,
building ceiling or walls, or
construct overhead support structure for vacuum piping system outside in the
open
PIPING SYSTEM BELOW GROUND
Use 4" no. hub metal pipe and fittings for
best results and to prevent cracking and wear.
PIPING SYSTEM DIMENSION
REQUIREMENTS
Vacuum piping system's overhead should be a
minimum of 10 ft. from ground level and pipe drops for hose connections should
be a maximum of 6.5 ft. to 7.0 ft. from ground level. THese dimensions may need
to be adjusted depending on vehicle clearance needed and accessibility for
employees. Distance between hose drops (abreast) should be a minimum of 12.0 ft.
for vehicle side clearance and 20.0 ft. apart when vehicles are placed one
behind the other.
PIPING SYSTEM SUPPORTS
OVERHEAD
Support piping systems every six feet maximum to
prevent sagging. Very important when using ABS or PVC outside exposed to
elements. For best support and to eliminate excessive movement of drops, we
recommend using unistruct (channel iron) with clamps sized for outside diameter
(O.D.) of pipe used. If pipe must be hung from ceiling, use 3/8" allthread
and pipe hangers sized for pipe used. It may be necessary to sway brace to
prevent excessive movement.
PIPING SYSTEM KITS
Vacutech LLC can provide complete kits consisting
of: Pipe, Fittings, Glue, Hardware and Hangers.
DESIGN
Fax or mail a sketch of your vacuum system layout
with dimensions of vacuum equipment location to first hose drop, distance
between drops, and height you would like overhead mainline. We will provide an
isometric drawing with material needed (approx.) for your system requirements.
